Spare Key Binder

Leave your family a plan, not a puzzle.

Spare Key Binder walks you through writing down everything your family would need if something happened to you. You choose who gets which parts, and it delivers them only when it's time.

Launching soon on the web. $39.99 to start, with your first year of the release service included. Works on any phone or computer, nothing to download. See how it works

Most families find out what they didn't know at the worst possible time.

In the middle of a hospital stay or a funeral, someone has to answer questions only you can answer. Spare Key Binder gets those answers out of your head and into the right hands.

  • Which bank holds the mortgage?
  • Is there a life insurance policy, and where is it?
  • Who picks the kids up on Thursdays?
  • What's the passcode to the phone?
  • What would they have wanted?

Three steps, done at your own pace

1

Write it down

Ten guided sections cover money, insurance, medical, legal documents, the house, your digital life, the kids and pets, and your wishes. Skip what doesn't apply and come back anytime. A progress meter shows what's left.

2

Choose your people

Add the people you trust by name and email. Each one receives only the sections you pick, so your neighbor can get the dog's care instructions without ever seeing your bank accounts.

3

Set your release plan

Decide how Spare Key Binder knows it's time. Check in with one click from an email or text every few weeks, or let a trusted person request access with a waiting period you control. Until then, nobody sees a thing.

It only goes out when it should

If you're in the hospital, you can't hit send. So Spare Key Binder keeps a sealed copy of your binder and a simple timer, and releases it only when your plan says it's time. You pick the plan.

Check-in timer

Example: check in every 30 days, 7-day grace period
  1. Day 0You check in from an email or text
  2. Day 30Reminder by email
  3. Day 34Final reminder, now by text too
  4. Day 37Your people receive their sections

Or let family ask

Prefer no timer? Anyone on your list can request your binder. You're alerted by email and text right away, with a waiting period you choose to say no in one click.

Built against false alarms

Several reminders by email and text. A grace period you set. And a pause switch for deployments, long trips, or anywhere you'll be out of touch.

Change your mind anytime

Edit your binder, add or remove people, or change what each person receives whenever life changes. Every improvement we make is included.

Everything a family asks for, in one place

Each section comes with plain-language prompts, so you're never staring at a blank page wondering what to write.

The right details for the right people

Not everyone needs everything. Your spouse might get the whole binder. Your brother gets the medical and legal sections so he can help with decisions. The neighbor with your spare key gets the pet instructions and the house details. Each person sees only what you chose, nothing more.

SpouseThe whole binder
BrotherMedical, legal, kids, final wishes
NeighborPets, home and keys

Encrypted before it's saved. We can't read it.

Two keys, and we only hold one

Your binder is encrypted in your browser before it's saved. Opening it takes two pieces: one we keep, and one sent to each of your people when you add them. Neither works alone, so we can't open it, and neither can they until release.

No passwords, by design

Spare Key Binder guides you to point to your password manager's emergency access instead of typing passwords in. Less to protect, less to lose.

Honest about what it is

Spare Key Binder organizes information and delivers it. It isn't a will and doesn't replace legal documents. It tells your family where those documents are.

Borrowed from a habit that works

Before every deployment, service members sit down and put their affairs in order: who to call, where the documents are, what happens to the kids and the car and the bills. It's a checklist born from hard experience, and families who have it are better prepared for the worst day.

Spare Key Binder brings that same discipline to every family, no deployment required.

Disabled veteran-owned and operated

Questions people ask

What if I'm just on vacation or deployed?

Pause your timer before you go, or set a longer check-in window. You'll also get several reminders by email and text before anything is released.

Can my family see my binder now?

No. Your people are told they've been added, but they can't open anything until your release plan says it's time.

What if I forget my passphrase?

Use the recovery key you saved at setup. Because we can't read your binder, we can't reset it for you, so keep that key somewhere safe.

Is this a legal document?

No. It's an organizer that makes sure your family can find your will, policies, and other documents. For the legal documents themselves, talk to an attorney.

What does the yearly fee cover?

$8.99 a year keeps your release plan running: check-in reminders by email and text, secure storage of your sealed binder, and delivery to your people when it's time. Your first year is included in the $39.99.

What if a yearly payment doesn't go through?

Your release plan keeps working. We'll remind you to update your payment, but a missed payment will never stop your binder from reaching your family. And your binder is always yours to view and print.

An hour tonight could save your family weeks of searching.
